I love in Johannesburg and it is quite difficult to live an alternative lifestyle here. I do try though in my own small way. We live in a failrly modest house (by middle-class Joburg standards). All our friends live in homes larges than 250sqm which I think is just too big. We drive a decent car but no a fancy one and try to use one car as far as possible. In a city the size of Jo'burg with no decent public transport,this can be quite a feat! I am trying to growing my own veggies with some success. I consider myself to be fairly normal but I am considered to be 'alternative' by others! haha! I think my one challenge is getting my husband to be more eco-friendly.
